With much excitement and delight, Jurassic World is back! This is a theme that sold out extremely quickly in South Africa in 2015, so all who missed out then will be eager to get their claws on a set from this new range. The 2018 wave (all except set 75932), is based on the sequel of Jurassic World; entitled Fallen Kingdom; slated for release on 22 June 2018 at local cinemas.

I opted to purchase set 75933, T-Rex Transport first, keen to have the king of dinosaurs in my possession. This set consist of 3 minifigures, a truck and trailer, a small mobile laboratory and 2 dinosaurs.

There are 2 guards, both with identical outfits but different heads, hats and weapons. One has a stud-shooter gun and the other an electrical shock prod. Both weapons seem small and insubstantial opposed to the mighty dinosaur. The third minifigure is Zia Rodriguez, a dinosaur biology expert, who will appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. She features a lovely dinosaur printed t-shirt semi-covered by an olive green jacket, jeans and red shoes (possibly Chuck Taylors, a more fitting choice than Claire’s high heels). A fantastic minifigure design with two facial expressions, one serious, one worried. Zia wears the classic bob hairpiece, which despite being over-used, suits her character well.

The mobile laboratory is a small built computer with fold up sides, long wires on each side with a stethoscope-like end. I assumed that this machinery was to listen to the dinosaur’s heartbeat but, according to the LEGO® description, it is to “perform an emergency blood transfusion.” The unit, whether folded or not, doesn’t fit into the vehicle (with the dinosaur) and seems a bit out of place.

The first dinosaur is a tiny baby velociraptor. We would need to watch the film to determine whether his mini-dino has a place in this scene but it seems like an odd last-minute addition to the set, a very cute one at that.

The prominent dinosaur of this set, the great T-Rex, really steals the show. He is built from 8 components and is very easy to assemble. He has movable arms, legs, head and tail and a jaw that snaps open and closed. This design has not changed since the 2012 Dino theme’s rendition but has seen various re-colours over the years. Tan with medium-dark-flesh and dark-brown printing on his back, LEGO® manages to capture this ferocious predator superbly. I am absolutely thrilled to add this T-Rex to my collection.

The truck cab is 8 studs wide and relatively easy to build. It has lots of nice details such as side steps, exhaust pipes, indicators and a stickered grill. The truck looks very good in a dark-blue, black and light-bluish grey colour scheme and would fit in well in a city scene or the like. The interior of the cab is a bit small and fits only one minifigure. The trailer is a very monotonous build but the end result is fantastic. Making use of some technic elements creates a solid structure while the size of the trailer is perfectly suited to carry the T-Rex. The sides of the trailer include 4 corrugated panel elements in a new colour (dark-bluish grey) and can unlock and fold down to release the T-Rex from confinement. The trailer also has a stand to fold down for when it is unhooked from the truck.

This is an amazing set overall and a lovely start to my Jurassic World collection. It makes a great display piece but is equally as playable. I can’t wait to see the movie.
